Crude Oil Assay Services & Testing

CCIC Singapore can undertake crude assay and hydrocarbon characterization to clients’ own specifications or alternatively can recommend a suitable test to meet project objectives.

Crude oil assay testing includes characterisation of the crude/condensate along with the associated commercial fractions produced from the physical distillation.

Atmospheric and vacuum distillations produce commercial fractions such as naphtha, kerosene, gas oil, vacuum gas oil and residual bottom cuts to meet clients specific refining or process requirements. The unique molecular characteristics of each crude oil produced means that related assays, analysis requirements and reporting formats are offered by CCIC on a project basis.

Traces Elements Analysis by ICP-MS

ICP-MS instruments have become popular in analytical laboratories owing to their versatility. In a few minutes, the ICP-MS can produce high quality data for elements in ppb level. Trace metals analysis is a very important tool which enables identification of low levels of metals in a sample which can be critical to product quality control and check of contamination. Our new ICP-MS is primarily focused and optimized for petroleum products applications, but also can accommodate projects requirement for short or long term basis.

Chemical Contaminants Analysis In Marine Bunker Fuels by GC-MS

Currently, standard industry practice requires that bunker oil being supplied to Marine vessels must fulfil ISO 8217 requirements. However, ISO 8217 has another criteria which states that it should not contain chemical waste, waste lubricants or any other contaminants which would impair the efficiency of the purification or engine system on vessel, such criterias are difficult to monitor and enforced.

At the present moment, the presence of other types of possible contaminants, especially organic contaminants, are not monitored at all. It has surfaced recently that certain bunker tankers' operators sold contaminated bunker fuel that had been mixed with waste oil to ship operators. These contaminated bunker oil, however, was still within the ISO 8217 general requirements. Such contaminated bunker oil caused great harm to the vessel's engine, and clogging of filter as well as high pressure in fuel pumps had been reported. Our laboratory is equipped with GCMS which is able to analyse samples from bunker oil and as well as bunker fuel blendstock from different sources. The presence of any contaminants in the samples would be indicative of an adulteration (whether accidental or intentional) of the bunker oil supply according to ISO 8217 clause 5.
